The artist
Equine artist, horse lover, and lifelong student of the animal that has shaped everything.
I grew up around horses. mucking out, grooming, learning to ride, and watching. Always watching.
The watching -involvement led to a deep connection to draw their physical beauty and strengh. I started sketching horses in school notebooks, then on proper paper, then on canvas.I progressed onto taking C.S.E Art at Secondary school loving the process but the horses were always the subject I came back to.
There's something about the way a horse holds itself — the tension in the neck, the softness around the eye, the way the whole body shifts when they sense something — that I find endlessly fascinating. I've been trying to capture it for twenty years and I'm still not done.
How I work
Every piece starts with time spent with horses — watching, photographing, sketching. I need to understand the subject before I can paint it.
I work out the composition in small studies before committing to the final surface. I'm looking for the moment that feels most alive.
My work is built up in layers — paint, collage, ink, more paint. The texture that results is part of what I'm after: something that feels as physical as the animal itself.
I know a piece is done when I stop wanting to change it. That can take days or months. I'd rather wait than rush.
Whether you're interested in a commission, a print, or just want to say hello — I'd love to hear from you.
